Cinemental_045 - w/ Raheim Lloyd (part two) - Near Dark
Wednesday Dec 09, 2020
Wednesday Dec 09, 2020
The greatest vampire film you've never heard of? O, by the way, don't call them vampires. Guest Raheim Lloyd continues his streak of cool film choices with this early Kathryn Bigelow action/horror mash-up. Featuring a core cast straight off their shoot for Bigelow boyfriend Jim Cameron's "Aliens", Lance Henriksen, Bill Paxton and Jenette Goldstein re-join forces to take a young man on the ride of his life. Lotsa killing, no extra charge. This movie just reinforces the fact that children should not be turned into creatures of the night. Nothing good ever comes of it.

Join us and our guest, Raheim Lloyd as we dive into the follow-up to the greatest sci-fi/horror film of all time* and second greatest sequel of all-time*, "Aliens". This (literally) action-packed chaser features Ripley's return to LV-426 and new confrontation with everyone's favorite xenomorph. Come listen in to why we think this film still holds up 35 years later.
*opinions of this writer are not the full opinion of the Cinemental team but regardless should be accepted without question.

Thursday Nov 26, 2020
Happy Thanksgiving , everyone. We wanted to do something a little different for the holiday, so we did. I had run across this list a few months back called "30 Films, 30 days" So the idea is, there are 30 prompts, and you post a different film each day for a month...you get the idea. So we decided we'd all make a list of our 30 films and just go through them all in one show. Which ended up running almost 4 hours! We also invited Deirdre Brooks back to the show to share her list as well. So, here's part 1 of the show with Part 2 to follow ASAP. Enjoy, eat lots of food and stay safe everybody!

Monday Nov 23, 2020
Our guest, "Haywire" webseries co-creator and indie filmmaker, Scott Klein brings us the pop-culture staple 'The Warriors" as his 'guilty pleasure'. We may have some things to say about that, oh yeah, and Latham had never seen it. So, there's that. Scott's reasoning behind his love of this film is a fascinating trip, one we think you'll enjoy listening to. Lots of fun chitchat as well. Join us, won't you, as we travel 'In the City'.

Saturday Nov 21, 2020
Saturday Nov 21, 2020
This week we head somewhere we've never gone before! No, not a Star Trek film. Instead our special guest, friend and indie filmmaker Scott Klein takes us down the comedic path with his film choice, "My Cousin Vinny". Now, considering I haven't seen this film since it came out and Latham had NEVER seen it, revisiting this turns out to be pretty interesting. Listen in to hear our reactions to this oft lauded comedy and see if it holds up to the years and the hype.

Cinemental_041 - w/ Jerry Ma (part two) - Crippled Avengers
Monday Nov 16, 2020
Monday Nov 16, 2020
In the second part of our film discussion with EpicProportions owner, artist and designer Jerry Ma, we jump chop and kick our way into the wild and crazy world of the Shaw Brothers studios. We venture into the Kung-Fu classic "Crippled Avengers" or "The Return of the Deadly Venoms". We also get schooled in the process of Hong Kong filmmaking at that time and what these guys were about and how they were viewed.
Listen in to our rather entertaining discussion as Latham views his very 1st Shaw Bros. film ever!

I'm not even sure what there is left to be said about "Big Trouble in Little China". This cultural touchstone of a film is brought to us today by graphic designer and artist Jerry Ma, creator of the EpicProportions brand. He brings with him a viewpoint about this movie that we've honestly never considered before and adds a new level of love for this film. Grab your six-demon bag and listen in, won't you? Should be a lot of fun!
