Cinemental_069 - Mike Dolce (part two) - House ('85)
Friday Feb 26, 2021
Friday Feb 26, 2021
Podcaster/Writer/Artist Mike Dolce brings us his guilty pleasure this week, a little movie some of you may have heard of, called "House". This is not the Japanese horror film, but the 1985 horror/comedy featuring a turn by such 80s stalwarts as Richard Moll and George Wendt, and that's on top of the film's lead, the greatest American hero himself, William Katt. Do we think it holds up? Well, maybe you should listen in and hear for yourself.

Cinemental_068 - Mike Dolce (part one) - Charlie Wilson's War
Wednesday Feb 24, 2021
Wednesday Feb 24, 2021
Joining us this week is fellow podcaster, writer, artist and all-around creative type, Mike Dolce and he brings with him a couple of really disparate film choices. Something we love and respect. First off, we jump into "Charlie Wilson's War" a film about the Texas congressman who accomplished something spectacular when he figured out a way to fight a war without almost anyone realizing he was doing it. Based upon reality, his network of good 'ol boys and his charming demeanor proved some of his greatest assets in his quest to help the people of Afghanistan.

Cinemental_067 - Dean Haspiel (part two) - The Incident
Monday Feb 22, 2021
Monday Feb 22, 2021
In my own knowledge of cinema, it's always a little surprising when a guest brings us a movie I have honestly never even heard of before, especially when it sports a cast of this magnitude and was (almost) released in my lifetime. However, Award-winning Writer/Artist Dean Haspiel did just that with this week's episode. A little film from 1967 called "The Incident". A gritty, dark and subversive film about a NYC subway car filled with folks who just wanna get home and are forced to endure a night none of them will ever forget. Give it a try, if you can track it down. It's an experience YOU won't soon forget.

Thursday Feb 18, 2021
Thursday Feb 18, 2021
Part two of our film discussion with writer/pal James Ninness takes us to a deep, dark place in American cinema history. That's right. The 80s buddy/cop dramedy. And we don;t just go in for any old one, we shoot straight to the top (or is it bottom) of the pile with the ultimate expression of this genre, "Tango & Cash"! Starring two of Hollywood's biggest stars at the time, what could possibly go wrong?

Cinemental_064 - James Ninness (part one) - The Departed
Wednesday Feb 17, 2021
Wednesday Feb 17, 2021
Writer and friend of the show, James Ninness returns to Cinemental bringing with him Martin Scorsese's modern crime classic, 'The Departed". A (little-known) remake of a Honk Kong film from 2002 ( Infernal Affairs - highly recommended), but does this powerhouse cast deliver the goods in a way that both pays respect to the original and stand on it's own? Check out the show to see what we think.

Cinemental_061 - w/Howard Chaykin - "MyMan Godfrey/Nothing Sacred"
Tuesday Jan 26, 2021
Tuesday Jan 26, 2021
This week on Cinemental, our guest is the often imitated but never equaled or surpassed, writer, artist and legend, Howard Chaykin. He brings to our attention to discuss two classics from the 30s starring the lost entirely too soon Carole Lombard, First up, "My Man Godfrey" and amazing touchstone with the great William Powell. Secondly, we discuss "Nothing Sacred", a movie with a great story, but with a male lead that lacks the same chemistry as Powell/Lombard, who at one time were married IRL.
