Friday Aug 21, 2020
This was a special one. This week are joined by best-selling author Raymond Benson, in the first part of a two part show, to discuss perhaps one of the most important science-fiction films of all time. Certainly polarizing, as it has it's fans and haters, but undeniably one of the seminal space-based movies in film history. Over 50 years old already and looking as fresh as a newborn still today, "2001:A Space Odyssey".

Cinemental_016 w/Lucky McKee (part two) - Sucker Punch
Tuesday Aug 11, 2020
Tuesday Aug 11, 2020
Welcome to part two of our discussion with writer/director/producer Lucky McKee. Listen to us get a little confused by Zack Snyder's epic nutter, "Sucker Punch". This is straight up, one of the most confounding films of the last 20 years. At times in complete opposition with it's own purported 'message', this film jumps between being childish, schoolboy basement fantasy and something approaching female empowerment, or at the very least schoolboy fantasy dressed in female empowerment. Or something.

Cinemental_015 w/Lucky McKee (part one) - Dead Presidents
Friday Aug 07, 2020
Friday Aug 07, 2020
Well, this week we welcomed Producer/Director Lucky McKee into the studio to discuss a couple of his favorite films. As usual, we ran a little long and it had to be broken into two episodes, but it does make it a little easier to consume, in 1-hour chunks rather than a 2-hour marathon, right?
So first off we take good long look at the Allen and Albert Hughes' sophomore directing effort, "Dead Presidents". A fine, coming-of-age film taking place in the 70s era Bronx and Vietnam.

In addition to our usual discussion of the films very small assortment of posters, in which we learn a lot about poster art and the art of retouching. Enjoy!

The great Jimmy Palmiotti joins the Cinemental team to discuss one of his all-time favorite films, the 1968 classic "Where Eagles Dare" We also discuss this film's many fine (and not so much) posters in our "Down the Tubes" segment. Once upon a time, Jimmy designed movie posters himself, working for a legend in the business and I guarantee you've seen posters he's created. So listen for a fun look back to the days of classic action/adventure, oh yeah...and killing Nazis. Lots of Nazis.

We grab a guest close to home this week with the addition of Deirdre Brooks to the show as we discuss one of her favorite films, Rob Reiner's classic coming-of-age adventure, "Stand By Me". While still adhering to his world, this is one of the least Stephen King-esque stories you'll find, and one of the most amazing.
