Cinemental_029 - w/ Ben Templesmith (part two) - Dune (1984)
Tuesday Oct 06, 2020
Tuesday Oct 06, 2020
Yes, I am aware that David Lynch's "Dune" is not REALLY a horror film and does not (technically) fit within our "Scare-A-Mental" format change for the month, HOWEVER, when your guest Ben Templesmith is as passionate about the worlds of Dune and this film, how can you say no? (Nevermind the fact that the idea for ScareAMental came along after he'd made his film choices. As well as the zealot-like love for Dune and David Lynch that my co-hosts hold for the property and the director.)
Come with us as we search for wormsign in a most (I feel) un-Lynchian world.

Friday Oct 02, 2020
Friday Oct 02, 2020
We open up the spooky season with a show title re-brand and a great guest, NY Times best-selling creator Ben Templesmith! This episode we discuss a favorite of his, (and spoiler alert, ours, too!) John Carpenter's "The Thing". We dig into into the who, where's and what's of this wintry wonderland of a monster movie in our own inimitable (see what I did there?) way.

Cinemental_027 - w/ Jeff Gomez (part two) - Basket Case
Tuesday Sep 29, 2020
Tuesday Sep 29, 2020
In a perfect lead into the month of October, we continue our discussion with Starlight Runner head honcho Jeff Gomez about another one of his faves. So, yeah...his guilty pleasure was the classic "Basket Case". If for no other reason, I can call it a "classic" as it's more than 20 years old. (I keed!) Latham and Hassan weigh in on a film they've never experienced before and I put my two cents in as well. And you have to hear why Jeff loves this film and feels it has earned it seat at the horror classic table.

Cinemental_026 - w/ Jeff Gomez (part one) - Fight Club
Friday Sep 25, 2020
Friday Sep 25, 2020
So, it seems we've broken the first rule of fight club. (And technically, the second as well.) We've gone and talked about Fight Club, one of David Fincher's mid-career masterworks. Our guest, transmedia mogul and Starlight Runner CEO, Jeff Gomez demanded we do so, and we responded with a resounding "Okay!" We're always up for a dissection of a Fincher film, so it seemed a no-brainer. We also discuss a bunch of great posters made for the film's release as well as a selection of fan-made alt posters as usual on our "Down the Tubes" segment. See those posters below the player. Enjoy!

Cinemental_025 - w/ Walter Simonson (part two) - Castle Keep
Tuesday Sep 22, 2020
Tuesday Sep 22, 2020
In the second half of our film discussion with comics legend Walter Simonson, we dig into a really strange, but interesting film, "Castle Keep". It's true meaning will keep you thinking about it long after you've finished it. Burt Lancaster stars as a hardnosed WW2 officer struggling to keep his men in the right mind as they await an approaching German front. Holed up in a ancient, medieval castle the men are slowly finding ways to keep themselves occupied and some of them aren't what you'd expect in this truly unique film.

Cinemental_024 - w/ Walter Simonson (part one) - The Professionals
Friday Sep 18, 2020
Friday Sep 18, 2020
Our episode this week takes us back to the new west, with our very special guest, comics legend Walter Simonson as he joins for the first of two episodes featuring a couple of films he really likes. First up, "The Professionals", a modern western with Lee Marvin and Burt Lancaster as hired guns brought in to rescue a kidnapped wife from across the Mexican border. Now, if you know me, you know I love a good western, but when you toss guys like this into the mix, well...you're bound to have a time, regardless.

Friday Sep 11, 2020
Friday Sep 11, 2020
Friend of the show and renaissance nerd, Mike Wickliff joins us this week to dig into a couple of unique (and vaguely surreal) treats. The first film by French visualists Jeunet & Caro, "Delicatessen" and an interesting indie called "Six-String Samurai". Listen in to see if these two films are indeed a hearty meal or just a simple snack.
